Things to do
North Cornwall is one of the last unspoilt places in Britain, packed full of places to visit and things to do. Here is a selection, and of course, we'll be happy to help you with advice when you visit.
Places to visit
There are many wonderful properties and gardens owned by the National Trust. Do take time to have a look at their website – if only to plan for a rainy day: www.nationaltrust.org.uk
Lanhydrock house and gardens
Lanhydrock is the jewel in the crown for The National Trust. It is a magnificent late Victorian country house and was home to the Agar-Robartes family. There are also large formal and woodland gardens with breathtaking magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons. Take a look at National Trust - Lanhydrock House.
Tintagel
Tintagel, famous for its ruined 13th century castle, is tied to the legend of King Arthur. Treat your imagination by visiting the castle, set high on the rugged coastline, together with the nearby Merlin's Cave. At Tintagel you will also find 'The Old Post Office', a rare example of a fourteenth century dwelling, with a slate roof that heaves and rolls like the sea.
Prideaux Place
Situated just out of Padstow, Prideaux Place is well worth a visit. It is a beautiful Elizabethan Manor house, home to the Prideaux Brunes. www.prideauxplace.co.uk
Bodmin Wenford Railway
For steam enthusiasts, the Bodmin Wenford railway is definitely worth a visit. The only standard gauge railway in Cornwall makes it a very special day out. You can take a thirteen mile round trip, starting from the authentic 1950’s station at Bodmin. www.bodminandwenfordrailway.co.uk
Pencarrow House
This has been the family home of the Molesworth St Aubyns for nearly five hundred years. The house is approached down a mile long drive flanked by blue hydrangeas and rhododendrons. The house is set in fifty acres of gardens with sweeping views down the valley. Within the house are superb collections of art and outstanding porcelain. www.pencarrow.co.uk
